My name is Katina. Charles and myself, along with our dogs, bought a beach trailer in Atlantic Beach NC in January of 2020 after living on our 60 yr old wooden boat. We didn’t seek out a beach trailer, in fact I didn’t know trailers near the coast were any different than real estate anywhere else in the US. I am a bit embarrassed to admit that because I am a licensed NC Real Estate Broker, but it’s true. I had no idea about the ins and outs of a leased lot with a piece of personal property on it. I was intimidated, but not for long! Basically a beach trailer (by our definition), is a vehicle. It is not on a permanent foundation, it can technically be moved at any time (although I think someone would have a hard time moving our 1971 trailer) and it is not subject to real estate property taxes. It is NOT real estate.
As a real estate broker, this just blew my mind. How was I supposed to find out what I should be paying for my trailer? Where are the comps? Where are all the listings of others for sale and what has sold? Well, the short answer is…..there isn’t really ONE place for this information. Zillow and Trulia have some listings for sale. Craigslist has a few. Facebook Marketplace will show you some. But I became really frustrated when I determined that the only way to see what was available was to DRIVE to the beach, through every mobile home park, and write down the information on the FSBO signs in trailer windows. Well, as a real estate professional, you can imagine how this just seemed horribly inefficient to me-for buyers and for sellers. I created this website to help others find an affordable beach property.
Fast forward to 2024 and our NEW website. The new site is expanding our reach to other states that have beach trailer communities like the coast on NC where I live. We are very excited about the new functionality and the prospect of it growing into a site for everyone in the US to use to find a place at the beach.
